Know Someone Snorting CBD? Is Insufflation of CBD Safe?

Know Someone Snorting CBD? Is Insufflation of CBD Safe?

Short Answer - NO, do not snort CBD. It is a completely unresearched area, and the nasal passage is extremely delicate. There are many safer, tested and effective methods, such as CBD Oil, CBD Edibles or CBD Vaping.

People are vaping CBD, drinking CBD in cocktails, eating CBD in confections and sweets, and even using it in their daily self-care routines. Can CBD become any more versatile? The answer to this question has become more apparent with the growing number of unique CBD products on the market. One of the newest consumption methods that is raising interest in the CBD community is snorting. After all, if people are vaping, smoking and even eating CBD, can you snort it? Then there is also the question of, just because you can... Should you?

Snorting does not have the best image, thanks to its immediate association with cocaine. This highly addictive and dangerous drug is commonly taken through the nose and snorted. Because of this, the moment the word “snort” comes up in a conversation, reactions are not positive. Due to this negative reputation that snorting has, snorting CBD is not a popular method, and is still a ‘touchy’ subject on CBD information platforms and to be fair for good reason...

Could Snorting CBD be an Effective Consumption Method?

As mentioned above, snorting CBD is not a popular method of consumption at all, people mainly just ask this question is that in it's purest for CBD Isolate is a powder, much like many illicit drugs which are popularly taken through the nose. The research on this CBD option is also limited, meaning that there is no solid information that can prove its efficiency or safety at all, Hence why we cannot recommend it at all and hope to encourage you to try more tried, tested and safer consumption methods such as vaping or CBD oils. There are however a few essential things that are known about inhaling substances through the nose that may be applied to CBD. Snorting, also known as insufflation, is used for many medical purposes including respiratory assistance, nasal drug administration, anaesthesia, and other critical care. Of course, there is a very good reason why medical professionals use this consumption method for medical purposes.

Snorting is considered to offer a more rapid onset of action when compared to oral ingestion because of the way it enters the body. The nasal membrane, or the inner part of the nose, is very porous. This allows for a significant amount of the substance taken to be directly absorbed into the blood vessels lining the nose. This means that the substance may enter the bloodstream quicker, and thus offer effects faster. Unlike oral ingestion, the substance does not need to be broken down by the stomach and may be absorbed almost immediately.

However, there are so many unknown factors to taking CBD isolate via insufflation, we seriously recommend you do not do this. The unknowns of this could lead to damage anywhere from light irritation to a perforated septum, (you probably don't want to google image search that term...), to even worse, because there just isn't any reliable scientific information online about any of this. Simply we can't recommend you to do this... there are so many extremely effective safe alternatives, which are more affordable too.

However, one could argue that taking CBD sublingually would offer the same effectiveness because the CBD is absorbed into the blood vessels under the tongue. In fact, it may be more effective because it is easier to hold the CBD under your tongue for a longer amount of time than keeping CBD in your nostrils.

Once again, the actual efficiency of CBD taken through the nose is still unknown. Although we know that snorting can be effective for other medical drug use, we cannot say that CBD is the same. There have been a number of people that have shared their CBD snorting experience online, and the experiences seem to be mixed. However, the number of these user experiences is small, and cannot be used to determine the efficiency of this consumption method, or it's safety.

What Potential Risks Could Occur from Snorting CBD Isolate?

As stated above, due to a lack of research,  it is so unknown and it could have a wide range of negative effects on your body. For instance, this is the list of ways in which snorting Cocaine can have on your body:

    • None loss
    • Blockages of nasal airways
    • Chronic halitosis
    • Chronic nosebleeds
    • Chronic runny nose
    • Crusted skin in the nasal passage
    • Collapsed nasal passages
    • Damage to the cilia (hairs inside nostrils)
    • Hole in the nasal septum (perforated septum)
    • Hole in the roof of the mouth
    • Inflammation of the nasal tissues
    • Loss of sense of smell
    • Nasal obstruction
    • Recurrent sinus infections
    • Saddlenose deformity (broad, flat nose)
    • Sinusitis
    • Sores in the mucous membrane of the nose
    • Spinal fluid leaks out of the sinuses
    • Whistling nose

Snorting CBD is so unresearched, which means that it could be worse than this or it could not be...we just don't know. This is just something we cannot recommend trying and definitely do not make this a regular consumption method.

    How Snorting CBD Works

Snorting is actually trickier than it may seem. To safely snort a substance there are a handful of important factors to take into consideration. Firstly, the ingredients found in the substance can make a big difference for its safety. Simply inhaling a substance for the sake of it is definitely not safe. You need to know exactly what is in the material you are about to snort. This is where the importance of the CBD form of the product comes into play. Not anything with “CBD” on the label can be snorted.

One of the main CBD options that seem promising for this unique method of consumption is CBD Isolate. CBD Isolate crystals are one of the most ‘pure’ CBD forms available. They are purified, concentrated compounds of CBD. Why does this make it a promising option for snorting? Well, CBD crystals are anywhere from 90-99% CBD so essentially CBD in its purest form, with 1-10% of relatively different compounds which we also don't know how it affects your nasal passage. When it comes down to people seem to do just associate white powders to snorting and it's probably why you have ended up here on this article.

Another factor that may make CBD Isolate a promising option for snorting is their form. Very fine powders are usually the safest to inhale through the nasal passages, and CBD crystals can be made into just that. By finely crushing CBD Isolate crystals, users may obtain a powder that can be inhaled without causing too much damage or irritation to the nasal passages. Once again, the lack of information on this option makes it dangerous.

As mentioned above, just because you CAN snort CBD... Should you? One could argue that snorting CBD is an effective form of bioavailability through the blood vessels in the nasal passage, but so is taking it sublingually through the blood vessels under the tongue, or vaping. However, if you are interested in snorting CBD, there are new products coming out that allow you to take CBD like a nasal spray. This method may be a much more simple way to take it rather than snorting CBD Isolate Crystals.

Is Snorting CBD Legal? | Should You Try It?

CBD’s legality in the UK has made it possible for many to enjoy CBD in a variety of ways. There are a large selection of products that CBD lovers can choose from, including CBD Isolate Crystals. Due to the fact that CBD Isolate is completely legal in the UK, then snorting CBD Isolate is in no way illegal. Once users have purchased a CBD product, they have the freedom to use it in any way they see fit, even if it is not recommended at all. Just keep in mind that it is always important to stick with the recommended dosage information on CBD products. Which for snorting there is none, as it's not recommended. They are specifically manufactured to be taken in a certain way, and going against this can be risky.

This brings us finally to the question of “should you try snorting CBD?” The easiest answer to this question is no. Taking into consideration the lack of information, studies and proof of what snorting CBD can do, it can not yet be labelled as effective. Although there may be a promising future for new CBD consumption methods, such as snorting, we are still waiting to learn more about their effectiveness and safety. Until we fully understand what effects snorting CBD can have on the body, it is not something that people should be experimenting with. After all, there is a risk in the unknown.

Nonetheless, if snorting CBD is something you REALLY want to try, you can always try Nasal CBD Sprays or Inhalers. These types of products have been specially designed for "snorting" CBD... More specifically, absorbing CBD through the nasal passage. That way you are able to enjoy the effects of CBD that has been absorbed through the nasal passage without the worry of the unknown when snorting CBD Isolate.

Not Sure What to do With your CBD Isolate?

CBD Isolate can be used to make CBD vape liquid, just dissolve the crystals in the vape juice of your choice ( you may need to warm the vape juice a little in a double boiler). To make a 5% CBD vape juice you just need to add 50mg of CBD isolate to 1ml of vape juice. check out our guide on How to make your own CBD Eliquid.
